Head Tracking technology has become an essential part of flight simulators (civil FSX and military IL2) as well as military simulators like ARMA2 and ARMA3 to mention a few, I have had my TrackIR 5 for about 14 months and I could never go back. Yes, you can play without it, yes it is expensive for some and yes there are cheaper alternatives, but.

TrackIR is a head tracking input device designed for use with gaming and simulation PC titles most notable being the flight sim genre. It is an infrared camera that tracks the position and orientation of your head, and then sends that data to the computer i.e. you look to the left of screen your in game head looks left(however worked for me out of the box).

The TrackClip, included with every TrackIR 5 purchase , attaches to the brim of a hat or visor and has three retro-reflective markers that direct infrared light back to the camera. The TrackClip Pro(shown above), which attaches to most PC headsets(attached to my G430 and RS195 no problem), comes with active LED markers and is useful when you need to track from further away or in brighter rooms.

Cons

The biggest negative people have generally is the price there are cheaper alternatives but you do get what you pay for. If the room is too bright the sensors can't see the lights and if you turn your to far to the left your head cut line of sight(LOS) with the sensor and it goes haywire but...

Pros

Higher cost equals warranty, support, updates and returns policy.

You can darken your room slightly is not a huge problem the room I use it in is bright as day and I have no issues and as for your head cutting the LOS adjust sensitivity with the software you shouldn't have to turn your head away from the screen I don't. I have had my TrackIR5 for about 14 months now and I worked out those fixes in mins of use! Its worth the extra money in my opinion.
